Committed to the city of Burlington, Burlington Family Dental Centre accepts the new Canadian Dental Care Plan. Let’s see what it’s all about and if you qualify!
What is the CDCP
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program (but administered through Sun Life) for citizens that have a household income less than $90,000 and currently don’t have dental benefits.
Who is Eligible for the CDCP?
First, if you aren’t already notified, check your eligibility here: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan/qualify.html
The government is rolling out this program based on age. Here’s a quick summary of who is eligible now and who will be later:
- Seniors aged 70 and above Started in December 2023 and ongoing
- Seniors aged 65 to 69 Starting May 2024
- Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate Starting June 2024
- Children under the age of 18 Starting June 2024
- All remaining eligible Canadian residents Starting 2025
Does the CDCP Mean I get Free Dentistry?
No. It isn’t free dentistry for you but it is designed to cover a portion of your cost based on your annual income. Here is how much that it covers based on your annual income:
- If your annual income is less than $70,000: there is no co-payment.
- If your annual income is between $70,000 and $79,999, then your co-payment is 40 per cent (the CDCP will only cover 60%)
- If your annual income is between $80,000 and $89,999, then your co-payment is 60 per cent (the CDCP will only cover 40%)
However, this is based on certain fee guide. If the dental office charges higher than the fee guide that the CDCP uses, then you are responsible for that additional payment. Call us to confirm how much you would have to pay!
What Services Are Covered in the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
Routine services are covered now such as:
- Scaling (cleaning), polishing, sealants, and fluoride
- Examinations and X-rays
- Fillings and root canal treatments
- Complete and partial removable dentures
- Oral surgery services, including extractions
However, some of these can only be covered once a year and some of them that require predetermination may not be covered as of May 1st, but starting in November 2025.
You can go here to find out exactly what is covered and when, or you can call us and we can help you.
