How Often Should You Get Professional Teeth Cleaning?

The Importance of Dental X-rays

In order to provide proper oral care, x-rays are important as part of typical treatment. X-rays allow our dentists to examine your mouth for signs of gum disease, tooth decay, bone loss, and other complications that may not be apparent by the superficial examination of the teeth and gums.

For children and teens, a dental x-ray may be necessary to observe how their teeth are developing and to identify any potential future problems. At Burlington Family Dental Centre, we use appropriate protective equipment in order to carry out x-rays diagnostics safely.

What’s Involved in a Dental Cleaning?

Dental cleanings consist of scaling and polishing mostly. It takes about 45 minutes (also referred to as 3 units) for the average person. However, if they have neglected their teeth for a while, more scaling or soft tissue management may be recommended. Sometimes we need to do a bit of flossing in between teeth. Usually, we incorporate a dental exam in with one of your cleanings every year to measure pocket size, x-rays, tooth stability, gum health, teeth grinding, wear and tear, occlusion (your bite) and so on.
